1- This week I have managed to finish my model and assembled all the pieces together enabling me to be able to take professional picture of it using lighting and scale people. By completing my model and taking the pictures I have been able to start putting together my final presentation sheets that will be used for the show.
2- I have achieved more than I hoped this week by being able to start putting my presentations sheets together however I do need to spend some time making sure my sketchbook is up to date.
3- I think this week has gone really well and I feel a lot better now that my model is completed as it means I can now concentrate of making my presentations sheets to a high standard and also leaves me enough time to get all the paperwork done next week.
4- My final outcome will benefit greatly as I have got a completed model of my final concept which providers a good visual aid for my project for people to see during the show and I have managed to make a good start on my presentation sheets.
5- Next week I would like to have my sheet completed and ready to show my tutor before printing them out. I would then like the spend the rest of the week completing the paperwork and making sure my sketchbook and blog are unto date for the fins hand in on the friday.

5-What I plan to do next week.
1- This week I was able to use the laser cutter and flat bed cutter to cut and engrave the pieces for my final model. I have then spent time scoring all my umbrellas and sticking them into shape and also had the chance to work out how my stands were going to stay together without using tape. All of these tasks have been a challenge but will be worth it in the end as it will make my model more professional looking.
2- I have completed everything that I wanted to this week but I feel I could have probably take more pictures of the design process to put in my blog and sketchbook.
3- I think that being able to use the laser cutter and flat bed cutter has meant that my week has been very successful. I am progressing through my project at a good pace and my model is coming together nicely without having to rush anything.
4- My final outcome will definitely benefit from the work I have done this week as it has given me the chance to use the machinery which means my model will be of a better quality and by getting it done as early as possible it had meant that I am not rushing the design process.
5- Next week I am hoping to complete my model as long as everything goes to plan. once that is completed I would like to spend some time taking pictures of the final piece using lighting and model people in order to give the building a sense of scale.

1- This week I started to make experiments of my final design idea for my building out of cardboard. This was really useful as it enabled me to make sure I liked my design idea and also get the right measurements for each piece. I have decided that the real model will be made out of polypropylene and therefore will need to use the flat bed cutter and laser cutter next week for my final piece.
2- I have achieved every thing this week that I was hoping to do.
3- This week has been very valuable as it has given me the chance to make sure my design idea was going to work before wasting any expensive materials. It has also meant that I have now got time to use software such as adobe illustrator to set up the files I need for using the machinery.
4- My final outcome will really benefit from the experiments I have done this week as I know my design idea is going to work well and will therefore hopefully not encounter any major problems when it comes to make the real model. I have also given myself enough time to use the appropriate machinery to aid with my model making so it will mean that the quality of the model will be a lot higher.
5- Next week I am going to start setting up adobe illustrator files which I will use to cut out my pieces for my final model and make sure that I book a time slot for using the machines so that I don't run out of time. I would also like to look into what the interior of my building might look like and what the floor plan of the beach will be.

5-What I plan to do next week.
1- This week I have finalised my project design concept of designing an indoor beach. I have started looking into building designs and how I could use the existing facade within my design. I have also started to gather some materials that I could used for my model by visiting various art shops, including the London Graphics centre and the 4D model shop. I have used feed back from my group crit and tutors to focus my design ideas and move forward with my project.
2- I have achieved everything that I hoped this week but need to make sure I keep my blog and sketchbook up to date.
3- I think visiting the art shops has expanded my design ideas by giving me inspiration into what my final outcome could potentially look like. I feel it was very successful in this I have managed to finalise my project ideas which is going to help me focus my project and enable to move forward faster.
4- By finalising my ideas and gathering materials early for my model, it means that I will have a longer period of time to start constructing my final model. This will mean that it will be of a better quality compared to if i had left it to the last minute.
5- Next week I would like to start working on my final model by doing experiments of my design before going onto start making the real thing. I will also need to work out how it is going to be constructed so I can organise time to use any machinery I may need.

5-What I plan to do next week.
1- This week I was able to start coming up with some initial design and concept ideas along with continuing my primary and secondary research. The most valuable part of my week though was making some experimental model of my design ideas using a range of different materials from cardboard to gathering random objects from the pound store. I really enjoyed this task as it enabled me to visualise some design ideas as I am not the best drawer in the world.
Using the models I had built, I took pictures of them which I then printed out and used tracing paper to draw over the top to turn them into even more initial building ideas.
2- This week I believe I have managed to complete everything I needed to in order to progress through my project however I need to make sure that I catch up on my blog and sketchbook so it doesn't get to far behind.
3- I think this week has probably been my most successful so far. I have really enjoyed making the experimental models as it has started to bring my project to life and will give me a visual aid to help me move on within my designs and also give me something physical to show my crit group and tutors in order to get feedback.
4- This weeks work will really benefit my project especially if I am able to gather some constructive feedback from my group and tutors as this will enable me to get their opinions on how my project is going so far and will hopefully help me come up with my final design concept.
5- Next week I plan on finalising my project concept ideas so that I can focus my project and research more. I would also like to start gathering materials for making my final model in the future by visiting various art shops. along with this I will need to to some more research so I can come up with a final design for my building.

5-What I plan to do next week.
1- During my second week working on my Final major project I decided to expand my research. I looked into façadism as my location has part of an existing building on the site which I would like to incorporate in to my building design. It was interesting to find out the definition of a facade and to start thinking about how I would be able to make it a feature of my building.
Secondly I did some primary research by visiting the royal academy of art to view there Sensing spaces exhibition. I found this interesting how each artist had used the space individually and how the use of lighting and smells really has an impact on the feel and use of the area.
During this week I also spent some time visiting my chosen location so that I could work out the size of the land and also to get a feel for the surrounding area and what I could bring to it.

2- I did manage to get everything done that i was hoping to this week however I would have liked to have done more research.
3- Overall looking at what I achieved this week, I believe it was successful as the information I gathered is going to be important for putting my project together. By visiting my location it has given me the chance to work out the size of the land so that I can start doing some initial ideas. It has also given me the chance to gather information about the surrounding areas so I can design something unique for this location. I could probably improve next week by doing more secondary research using books and electronic sources.
4- All the tasks I completed this week will definitely benefit my final outcome as it has provided a good start to my project and research and will give me a good basis for starting my initial ideas.
5- Next week I would like to use all the research and information I have gathered so far to start coming up with some initial design ideas and concepts along with using a range of materials to do some experimental models to help me to visualise my design ideas.

4-How will this week benefit my final outcome?
5-What I plan to do next week.
1-During my first week of the project I started to put together my initial ideas for the Final major project. I knew straight away that I want to design a building that was unique and brought someone unusual to the area it would be placed in. I also wanted to design a building thats purpose was also uncommon, so not just a cafe or shop but something a bit more wacky such as a water park, ski slopes or an exotic animal sanctuary.
My first task was to try and decide what my building would be used for so I did some research into this using the internet along with asking a wide range of people of all age group what they thought would be an unusual project to see. Asking members of the public what they thought was really useful and they really helped me to come up with a long list of possible project ideas whilst also going me inspiration to be more creative.
I secondly wanted to find a location for my project as I felt that once you have a location it would be easier to tailor the project towards a focus.
During the week I decided on a location close to where I live which has an existing facade which I have decided to incorporate in to my project in order to keep some of the history of the area. By having a location for my project I feel that it is going to help me decided on what my building will be as I can visually see the size of the land and also try and crest something that is unusual but will provide a great service for that specific area.
I lastly put together my ideas along with an action plan and timetable to show at the first project proposal pitches which I am aiming to follow to ensure the smooth running of the while project over the 7 weeks.
2- I believe that for my first week of the project I have achieved what I needed to in order to progress efficiently.
3- Overall, I think the week was successful and however I think that when doing more research I possibly need to look in to using my resources such as books from the library instead of just the internet. I would also like to complete some primary research by going to museums and exhibitions to give me more inspiration.
4- I think that all the tasks I completed this week will benefit my project in the long run as I have managed to find a location for my project which will give me a focus point along with starting off my research, which I will continue to do throughout the 7 weeks.
5- Next week I would like to complete some more primary and secondary research to help with my project. Secondly, I am going to visit my site to get pictures of the area and also work out the exact size of the plot of land.
Final Floor Plan and In The Future
Final Floor plan
The pictures below show my ideas for the
interior of the ‘Parasol Building’ - indoor beach. The main entrance and
reception will be contained within the existing building area, along with the
changing rooms and showers. It will also have stairs leading up to the
balconies, which people will be able to hire out for the day, ‘beach hut’
style, enabling some personal space. Decking will lead out in to the main beach
area, where there will be ‘retail space’ for local business; for example, fish
n chips and ice ream parlor, together with arcades for children and families to
enjoy.
In the future
In the future I would like to spend more time looking in to interior design of the beach and to make more decisions into what you may find within the building, such as beach activities and relaxation areas. I would also like to expand my project in to the community by potentially using signage and art to entice people to visit the building themselves. On a visit to Hastings I took various pictures of things I could add to my indoor beach in the future.Modelling 7

Finally once my building was dry and stable I put all the umbrellas together to form the roof and added the extra ones for detail and more impact. I then took pictures of the model and used 1:100 people in order to show the scale of the model.I think overall the model has come together well and all the component fit nicely together, I think if I was to make it again I would like to make sure that the joints they were glued were a bit neater without any marks just to make the whole thing more presentable. I think the umbrellas could also do with being a bit higher so that they would sit more comfortably over the top of the existing building.
To add a more beach feel to the construction of the building, I added blue coloured strips to the glass curved wall that forms part of the building. This was inspired by the shape and design of a wind breaker that you would find at the sea side.

To create the existing facade that is already present at my site I use adobe Illustrator to make a scale model of the building and also the back wall with engraved windows and doors. Once I had done this I used the laser cutter to cut and engrave all my pieces out of grey mount board. I decided to use this material as it lightweight and easy to cut along with the colour of the material slightly represents the colour of the existing building.Once all my pieces had been cut, I glued them together using superglue, making sure it was as neat as possible.

After some trial and error I came up with a way of keeping the umbrella stands together with out it looking untidy. I used a file to carve in to the sticks so they would sit together nicely and then glued them tougher with wood glue. After leaving them to dry for 24 hours they had formed a really strong hold and were ready to be used for my final model.

Modelling 4
To give an idea of what the interior of my indoor beach would look like, I have created a model to show the contour in the sand into the water using cardboard. I would like to in the future go on to make a better model of the actual interior of my beach using more materials and incorporate more in-depth detail as to were everything would be inside the building.
Modelling 3
Modelling 3
In order for me to show the location of my building I put together a model using cardboard to show the area where the building would stand along with what the existing surrounding area looks like.I found creating this model quite useful as I could clearly see the area which I had to work with and there for come up with a final design that would fit suitably in to the area.
