Project Proposal

Review

Over the past six months at Ravensbourne, I have been provided with various opportunities to improve many valuable skills, which I will continue to use throughout a hopeful career in the design and media industry.
These skills have included learning how to use many pieces of software and machinery from Adobe Photoshop for presenting my work, to using the laser cutter, which will be invaluable during my final major project.

I believe doing the foundation course has also given me a good grounding and in sight to the world of design and just how demanding it can be. It has these fore allowed me time to improve other personal skills, such as, time management, organisation and also helped to improve my confidence to present my work in front of people which was a real hurdle for me to overcome.

Now looking forward to starting my final major project, I believe that the way we have been taught to be freethinking and to explore all aspects of design before coming to a final design, will really help me to create a project that will challenge my design capabilities and hopefully end up with a project I will be proud to present at the end of the year.

Finally looking in to the future, I would hopefully like to be doing work for a company where I can express my creativity and hands on approach everyday. How I get to this point is somewhat unknown to be at present, but whether I achieve this through a continued education at university or getting a job in the industry will with any luck lead me to a future in design.

Project Concept

Looking back at previous projects that I have produced during the 3D pathway, I have found that I enjoy producing pieces of design that are not always what they first seem, such as bridges to nowhere, illusions and mazes. I would like to start my research here by looking into existing buildings and structures that may appear to be one thing and change to something else or look different depending on the angle you are standing at.

I have managed to find a location for my project to be based and would therefore like to do some initial research and investigations by finding out about the area in order to familiarise myself with the surroundings. The location also has an existing listed facade which I would like to incorporate into the design process and therefore look in to things such as façadism.

After this I am aiming to come up with a range of unusual and wacky ideas that would bring a certain new aspect to the location by providing the town with something not normally associated with the area like an indoor beach, roller coaster or ski slope. The idea of having something completely unexpected appeals to my design interests and will hopefully help me to produce a project that will be eye catching and a spectacle for people to visit.

Throughout the seven weeks, I would like to explore and continue learning more about the different programs and machinery that I mentioned during the review in order to complete my project to a high standard. I would also like to use these skills and techniques to produce a 3D model of my final outcome, which will be a great visual representation of my overall design.

Evaluation

Throughout the final major project I will need to keep track of my progress and evaluate all the decisions that I make. To do this I would like to get feed back from the people in the local area to the location of my project, along with also having group feedback sessions with fellow students as they will both provide me with how they think my project is coming together and may also give me the chance to gather new ideas.

In order to keep track of my progress I will also produce an action plan for the whole project which will enable me to check my weekly progress against my time targets and also let me evaluate and prioritise my steps. Finally I will also keep an up to date blog of all the work I will do over the seven weeks so I can keep a personal record of the whole project.

Overall at the end of the project, I will produce a final statement to compare my original proposal to what my final outcome will be whilst stating any main events and steps that occurred throughout the project.
